Making Your Own Unique Tarot

Have you ever wanted to create your own tarot deck but never knew how to start? This 4-week workshop series with tarot deck creator and author Charlie Claire Burgess will guide you through the process of deck creation, from inspiration to production. This is not an art class because you don’t need to be a trained artist to create a tarot deck—Charlie themself is proof of that! Rather, this series explores the attributes of a powerful, functional, and unique tarot, demystifies the printing and production process, and empowers you to develop your own vision and style — even system — as you begin creating cards.

In class, you’ll learn about the moving parts that make the existing tarot system work, such as archetype and symbolism. You’ll begin distilling your own archetypes and interpretations, finding your own symbols, and developing your own unique iconography. In between classes, you’ll dive head-first into creating new cards each week, with the goal of having a meaningful start on a tarot deck by the end of the series, along with the knowledge needed to follow it through to revision and production. There also will be opportunities to share works-in-progress, receive constructive feedback from the class, and learn from and inspire each other in a supportive and non-judgmental workshop environment.

With practical, theoretical, and creative guidance on areas from color palette to trim sizes, from symbology to crowdfunding, this series will provide everything you need to create your first tarot deck (apart from the art supplies!)

In preparation for the class, please have:

• A journal and pen
• An idea of what art medium you’d like to use (i.e. collage, watercolor, Procreate) and appropriate supplies. These aren’t needed for use in class but for card creation between classes!

This is a 4 week long series! Your ticket price includes a ticket to all four digital gatherings. We will meet on Zoom the following dates:

• August 5th, from 3-5pm PST
• August 12th, from 3-5pm PST
• August 19th, from 3-5pm PST
• August 26th from 3-5pm PST

This live, online workshop will be recorded. Replays will be available for 30 days after the final class and sent out to all registered participants.
